Contributor Bio: Burns, Bob Bob Burns has been teaching map and compass skills since the late 1970s for outdoor education programs, search and rescue groups, and public schools. He is a co-author of the "Navigation" chapter in the seminal Mountaineering: The Freedom of the Hills, 8th Ed., after having been the chapter author for its 4th through 7th editions. He has also co-written articles on the use of GPS in wilderness travel and on leave-no-trace wilderness practices. He is a co-author of Wilderness GPS. Bob lives in Seattle, Washington. Contributor Bio: Burns, Mike Mike Burns is climber, skier, long-distance hiker, filmmaker, and outdoor consultant, who has climbed in the Pacific Northwest, Colorado, Alaska, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Nepal, Pakistan, and India, including a first ascent in the Himalaya. He has been an instructor and lecturer on the technical aspects of climbing, including navigation and GPS usage. He has written numerous articles for The Mountaineer and Climbing magazines and is a co-author of Wilderness GPS. He lives in Seattle, Washington.
