Lindigo
Founded in 1999 by vocalist Olivier Araste, Lindigo is named after a local plant with healing properties. They play Maloya and have notched up hundreds of live gigs and released half a dozen albums. (...) The music is sacred yet has no temple, taking its avour from the cooking pot, the re, the cele- brations and the rhythm of life with its accordion shifts. The kitchen - the intimate heart of the home - is where families concoct their stories, and where the roulèr, pikèr and the paths of return explode. The world is vast and Lindigo knows it. Their world stretches far beyond the horizon. From Brazil to Japan, Cuba, Mozambique and Madagascar, their maloya speaks in Creole, its only beacon the fonnkèr and the memory of an island passed down to its children like a whispered rhythm beating against the volcano's belly. Today Lindigo is twenty, an age for celebrating its country, its roots and its beloved audience: thank you for your strength since the very first dance, thank you for the energy and for all the love.
