Beth Gibbons of Portishead announces her debut solo album, "Lives Outgrown", consisting of 10 beautiful new songs recorded over a period of 10 years. The album is produced by James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, Depeche Mode, The Last Dinner Party) and Beth Gibbons herself, with additional production from Lee Harris (Talk Talk Talk).
"Lives Outgrown" is, by far, Beth's most personal work to date, the result of a period of prolonged reflection and change, and "lots of goodbyes," in Beth Gibbons' own words - goodbyes to family, to friends, and even to her former self. These are songs from the middle of her life, where looking forward no longer means the same as it once did, and looking back has a more immediate and sharper focus. The album's songs also touch on topics like motherhood, anxiety and menopause (which Beth describes as a massive slump that hits hard), as well as the inevitability of mortality. But it's also an album about finding a new purpose and renewed hope.
This isn't the first time Beth Gibbons has ventured outside of the Portishead framework. In 2002, she collaborated with Rustin Man on one of the best albums of that year, 'Out Of Season', and in 2019 she did a succesful collaborattionwith Polish conductor and film music composer Krzysztof Penderecki on a sombre version of Górecki's Symphony No. 3, 'Symphony of Sorrowful Songs'.
