Priyambada Mishra
Priyambada Mishra carries forward the vocal style of the Gwalior Gharana. She is the daughter and disciple of eminent musician Pandit Damodar Hota. As such she inherits the rich tradition of her father and his gurus Pandit Balwant Rai Bhatt and Pandit Omkarnath Thakur. In this album, she gives tribute to these figures who have shaped her musical identity. Her devotion to Gwalior 'gayaki' or style of singing shines through her renditions of intricate compositions woven with soulful alaaps and powerful taans. In her voice lies the perfect blend of technical prowess and emotional depth. Displaying a keen talent for music, Priyambada began rigorous training under her father's guidance at the tender age of 5. In her youth she won several state level music competitions, and for three years during her adolescence, she was a National Talent Search Scholarship recipient from the Government of India. Thereafter, she obtained her Masters in Music degree from the Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal, Mumbai. Being ranked first in the nation for her M. Mus. Performance, she was awarded the 'Hari Om Trust Pratham Puraskar' and the 'K. Madhukar Gadgil Puraskar.' Priyambada is an All India Radio artist in Khayal and Hindi Bhajan and has performed widely in music circles in India and the U.S.
