George Jones
George Jones was awarded the coveted Kennedy Center Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008 at age 77. It was a crowning touch to the career of the man who had 168 chart hits, more than any other recording artist in history. George Jones began his incredible run of hit recordings in 1955 when "Why Baby Why" landed at #5 on the record charts. It was one of five hits Jones recorded on the Starday Records label. From 1965 thru 1971 Jones recorded 270 songs with Musicor Records, 29 of which were hits. Starday and Musicor are now owned by Gusto Records founder, Moe Lytle. Gusto is proud to release The Best Of George Jones, a primo collection of Jones' original and best Musicor recordings. You will receive a full dose of the emotionally charged Country classics that made Jones famous. It includes his moving #2-hit from 1969, "When The Grass Grows Over Me." The same year his beautiful love song, "I'll Share My World With You," was a huge #2-hit. The song was a harbinger of Jones' marriage to Tammy Wynette, a fact that Country fans loved. Other hits include "She's Mine" (#6-hit, 1970), "If My Heart Had Windows" (#7-Hit, 1967), "Say It's Not You" (#8-hit, 1968), "Tell Me My Lying Eyes Are Wrong" #13-hit, 1970) and "No Blues Is Good News" (#72 Hit, 1962). Enjoy the greatest Country singer of them all as he sings his heart out on every song.
