This new modern rock group based out of Minneapolis, Minnesota is Jeffry Becker, vocals/songwriter; Micheal Helm, percussion; and David Elmeer, bass guitar. Every so often an album comes around with a certain uniqueness that grabs you from the opening song, and then gets better with each listen. Passionate, poetic and powerful describes their first recording, and given what Becker and Helm have done in the past, that's no surprise. They played in Lovers Under Pressure, a band with a solid recording history and an explosive live show frequenting the Twin Cities and regional music scene. The Beginners expands on this approach with their debut release 'Vow'. They employ a horn section, viola de gamba, accordion, electric golden pipe organ and various other instruments all interwoven with layers of guitar. Becker's songwriting is personal and visceral. And while his lyrics have a continuously unfolding quality to them, his ethos to a strong pop-hook is evident. Propelled by talented drummer Helm (who also engineered and produced the record) and cascading instrumentation throughout, The Beginners 'Vow' is a compelling original work and a -must listen-!
