In So Many Ways
Alexia
Alexia is that rare gift of a singer that can get underneath the lyric of a song and become it through the melody. Her ability to sing began as a kid listening to her Dad's Sinatra and Bennett albums, simultaneously checking out what her older sisters were into in the late 70s and 80s. You name it, the Beatles, Barbra Streisand, show tunes, Alexia soaked it up like a sponge and realized singing along she could more than carry a tune. She could become a tune. As a teen singing became like breathing, muscial theater, talent shows, weddings, national anthem performances, the die was cast and Alexia was shooting long. Her tutelage continued from there into cabaret performing in NYC, then onto classical and jazz/big band singing while getting her music theory degree from UCONN. Alexia continued with small jazz combo performance until lyrically she became stymied with the wonderful, yet limiting standard jazz fare. Hence, a songwriter was born as well as a budding acoustic guitar player. From a rich emotional life in her 20's a spring was tapped on how to self analyze while all the while create a new forum to perform in. The singer/songwriter circle. Alexia's songs have been delicately crafted to emphasis how clear and unconvuluted the words and music are. They are right there on the table, purely accessible yet purely interesting. The songs bridge the gap between many styles without it seeming obvious. Alexia has penned over 50 songs with these 10 being the first to go to CD. Check them out. They are a little bit rock, a little bit country, a little bit jazz, a little bit Broadway; these songs are Alexia in so many ways. I.
