Somewhere in Between

Far from Home is the songwriting team of Kellie Bishop and Kevin O'Loughlin. The two call their style 'serenity pop' - a melodic blend of graceful vocals and subtle musical arrangements that is showcased on their jubilant new album, Somewhere In Between, The ten-song recording chronicles the duo's life journey -a search to balance work and creativity by following their musical dream. Far from Home's journey has encompassed marriage, the release of an internationally acclaimed debut, and a move from the Silicon Valley to rural Oregon. Kevin and Kellie met while working in adjoining cubicles at Sun Microsystems and romance grew out of their mutual love for music. In fact the demo for their first album was recorded one day after they returned from their honeymoon. That demo soon became an album. Like a Whisper was released on a small label, earning them national reviews and significant radio play with strong response in the European market. Their second album, Somewhere In Between, was recorded during a period of transition as the two developed a more sophisticated musical sound and relocated to Oregon as a part of 'coming home.' 'For us home is a feeling, more than an actual structure,' says Kevin. 'It's about being balanced, centered, spiritual. It's about how we change and grow - it's not about reaching a specific spot, but about the quality of the journey.' The quality of their musical journey is well documented on Somewhere In Between. The album is a sonically soothing pop adventure. From the vital, soul-baring 'If I Could Tell You' and the listener-friendly 'Silly Girl,' to the dusky, sultriness of 'Rainy Day Love Song'and the bright finale of 'To Love Somebody,' the recording sparkles with passion and vitality. 'When we got married, the whole partnership, friendship worked,' says Kellie, 'and once we started playing music it felt normal that it would be another part of our lives together. The way we complement each other musically is a reflection of our relationship.' Collaborative songwriters, Kellie writes lyrics and melodies while Kevin expands the musical concept, acting like an orchestra conductor with his multi-instrumental mastery. Kellie's rich, emotional soprano engages the listener as Kevin adds tasteful guitar stylings and lush vocal harmonies. Sophisticated and sensual, Far from Home's performance is accessible and down-to-earth. The San Jose Metro agrees: '[With comparisons] to Everything But the Girl and Cowboy Junkies, Far from Home is sure to touch fans personally, and find new followers.'
