North is a musical project currently centered in Ann Arbor, Michigan that has been producing original music since 1994. The Five EP is an edgy, grass-roots cut initially released to document North's larger sound and more current lineup for the project's growing fanbase and supporters. As such, the album features the trademark flute, world percussion, and harmony vocals that earmark the band's contemporary sound. Three fully-orchestrated rock ensemble pieces are complemented by two artful, 'by-demand' pieces that show off the group's diversity and compositional capacity. North mainly performs acoustic rock music featuring strong acoustic and electric rhythms, intelligent and diverse percussion, melodic flute lines and playful vocal harmonies; but has also touched upon a cappella, new age and classical styles, including film-scoring efforts. North aspires to create moving music across varying genres, but centers on evocative rock and progressive folk with an emphasis on thoughtful composition and introspective lyrics.
