Turn The Lamps Down Low - Ballads In Blue 1950-1953
Mel Walker
Twenty-seven tracks of early 1950s R&B, recorded in New York, Baltimore and Los Angeles at a time when R&B was rising in popularity. Already featured on an earlier Jasmine release, The Johnny Otis Show - All The Hits And More (JASMCD3141), these tracks delve deeper into Mel Walker's contribution to R&B. All the songs on the CD are written or co-written by JOHNNY OTIS who guided Walker's short-lived career. The CD gathers together WALKER's recordings for the Regent, Savoy and Mercury labels as well as recordings not originally released at the time. A welcome addition for collectors of early R&B. The accompanying booklet includes a detailed history of Mel Walker as well as label scans, press cuttings and other memorabilia.
