Joshua Breakstone
Joshua Breakstone reunites with his cello quartet for an outing of tributes to the music of pianists. 88 is the number of keys on a normal piano and the title of his latest recording. He didn't choose the pianists' music based on them being the greatest pianists of all time. He merely chose tunes that he liked that were written by pianists he loved. Included are compositions by Sonny Clark, Mal Waldron, Barry Harris, Elmo Hope, Cedar Walton, Harold Mabern, Lennie Tristano and Tadd Dameron. The title track is an original composition by Breakstone. PBS has filmed a documentary titled Joshua Breakstone, Soft Hands: Jazz Ethereal based around this recording that will air in November 2016.
