The Nine Muses
Anglo-Ghanaian film maker John Akomfrah's experimental documentary essay uses an abstract montage of archive material, landscape photography and literary reference to explore themes of immigration and identity. In an attempt to portray the disorientating experiences of those who migrated to Britain from the colonies in the years following the Second World War, the film draws on the Nine Muses from Homer's Odyssey as a structural device, and is divided into nine parts, one for each of the artistic muses.
