LA BOHEME is based on the masterwork by Giacomo Puccini, itself based on a novel by Henri Murger. This latest production and direction by Jonathan Millar for the English National Opera, was filmed at the London Coliseum in early 2009 and features a brand new English translation by Amanda Holden. Taken to ParisÆs depression era of the 1930Æs by Miller and designer Isabella Bywater, a vision of realism as depicted in the films and photos of the peroid is captured.
Melody Moore plays the tragic Mimi, who is devoted to fickle 'starving artist' Rodolfo (Alfie Boe). Hanan Alattar has some excellent scenes in the role of the coquettish Musetta. Peruvian conductor Miguel Harth-Bedoya wields the baton for the sumptuous score to this stage event, making his English National Opera debut.
