1930s British romantic comedy starring Gracie Fields as Nellie Gwynn, a pub landlady who meets Prince Charles of Grunau (John Loder) at a fancy-dress ball while dressed as a glamorous showgirl. The engaged prince falls in love with her and decides to renounce his royal life. But when his father, the king, dies, he realises that he is duty-bound to rule his country and must return from whence he came, leaving Nellie behind.
