Peter Medak's ('The Krays', 'Let Him Have It') adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic novel about a boy's journey into adulthood in 19th century London. When David is nine years old, his widowed mother marries the tyrannical Mr Murdstone, who treats David badly and sends him away to school. Then, when his beloved mother dies, Murdstone sends David to work hard for a living in London, where he stays with the Micawber family and encounters the legendary Uriah Heep.
