An explosive sci-fi action movie combo featuring TRANSFORMERS, STAR TREK and G. I. JOE. Michael Bay's TRANSFORMERS finds two warring bands of shape-shifting alien robots renewing their intergalactic conflict on Earth. While the Decepticons, followers of the malevolent Megatron (voiced by Hugo Weaving), strive to take over the planet, the Autobots, led by the valiant Optimus Prime (voiced by Peter Cullen), are intent on protecting humanity. When young Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) discovers that his new car is really the Autobot Bumblebee (voiced by Mark Ryan), it sets the stage for a massive giant-robot showdown. A shining example of the Hollywood summer blockbuster at its best, TRANSFORMERS combines stunning CGI effects and thrilling action sequences with drama, humour, and a touch of romance.
The reboot of the STAR TREK is a no-holds barred, fun, action-filled blockbuster. Director, J. J. Abrams has imbued his version with the elements that have made his shows such mind-bending entertainment while still keeping the soul of the saga intact. STAR TREK begins with an attack by an impossibly advanced Romulan ship captained by the tattooed, snarling Nero (Eric Bana). Among the survivors is the infant version of James T. Kirk (Chris Pine), who grows up to wreak havoc on the Iowa countryside. When Captain Christopher Pike (Bruce Greenwood) meets an adult Kirk, he encourages him to join Starfleet, giving him the opportunity to meet Spock (Zachary Quinto), Uhura (Zoe Saldana), and the rest of the characters audiences have loved for decades. Both Quinto and Pine do a fine job with their portrayals of Kirk and Spock, and Karl Urban couldn't be better as Leonard McCoy. The action and effects rank with any other top-tier summer blockbuster, but there's plenty of humour to balance the excitement.
In an age when the threat of global terrorism looms large, the world needs a hero--or a whole team of heroes. And who better suited to the job than the Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity (otherwise known as G. I. JOE), an elite military unit set up to counter those groups or individuals who pose a threat to peace, and who seek to destabilise the world through terrorist means. One such organisation is Cobra, a shadowy international crime syndicate bent on world domination. Not only must G. I. JOE contend with this persistent threat, but it must also thwart the plans of a corrupt arms trader named Destro, known for his cutthroat dealings. Sophisticated and determined though its enemies may be, G. I. JOE is always one step ahead of the game with the very latest in next-generation spy technology and military equipment at its disposal. And it will stop at nothing to hunt down its enemies; whether they're hiding in the mountains of Central Asia, the deserts of Egypt, the crowded streets of Paris, or beneath the ice caps of the North Pole.
