Elton John
Elton John started a solo tour in 1979 and was accompanied by the brilliant percussionist Ray Cooper. This tour brought them to places which they hadn’t visited before. They had been proposed to play also in the Soviet Union what seemed at first to be impossible. However it happened differently, Elton John became the first popstar who was allowed to play behind the iron curtain. The highlight of the concert was the final “Night’s Alright For Fighting / Pinball Wizard”. Elton John and Ray Cooper only played piano and drums but they did a true hard rock medley of Elton’s biggest hits. These two succeeded to conjure brilliant versions from Elton’s extensive material.
