Iron & Wine | Light Verse
First album in 7 years from one of the most respected singer-songwriters of the last two decades. The ten-track new album, "Light Verse", is produced by powerhouse Sam Beam himself. Once again, the lyrics revolve around a series of fictional and personal insights from desperate characters and surprising optimists, offering promise and heartbreak, tears and laughter, life and love.
"Light Verse" is Iron & Wine's most playful album to date, with songs born out of the joy felt after the anxious years of the pandemic. Where "Beast Epic" and "Weed Garden" gave vent to the anxieties of middle-aged frailty, the songs on "Light Verse" switch things up, focusing on the positives that acceptance can bring.
Musically, "Light Verse" cames about with the help of various talented musicians, each putting their authentic stamp on Beam's vision. The album features Tyler Chester (keyboards), Sebastian Steinberg (bass), David Garza (guitar), Griffin Goldsmith, Beth Goodfellow, Kyle Crane (drums/percussion) and Paul Cartwright (strings). A 24-piece orchestra also appears on the album, as well as Fiona Apple, who lent her voice to 'All In Good Time'.
