A Landscape Painter

Henry James's richly painted story is told through the diary of Mr. Locksley, a wealthy young man who plays at being a poor artist-a landscape painter-and takes refuge in a small seaside village where he boards with an old sea-captain and his daughter, Miss Blake. As a relationship develops between Locksley and Miss Blake, he thinks he can keep his wealth a secret, only to learn that he is not the only one capable of deceit.
