As a pilot I have great admiration for the early women pioneers: Bessie Coleman, a Black woman who learned to fly in France because it was illegal for her to do so in America; and the WASPs, Women's Airforce Service Pilots, young women who ferried aircraft across the States in WWII. For decades they were forgotten heroes. But not by me. Late 1999 and single mother SCARLETT MITCHELL is struggling to survive in Clanton, a fading West Texas border town, when a mysterious letter changes her life. It says her grandmother, who vanished when Scarlett's mother was a child, flew across the Atlantic in an airforce bomber at the end of WW2. But there is no official record of her or the flight. Scarlett goes to Scotland to unravel the mystery, but it quickly gets more complicated, and more dangerous.
