The Journey Home is a collection of real-life events. They were recorded as a way to capture thoughts and emotions as a way to heal the soul. The traumatic events that transpired at different stages of the author's life are unique in their own special ways. The profound impact that each story had on the author helped him to better understand himself and appreciate the world around him. Ultimately, they helped shape him to be the person he is today. At first, he was reluctant to share these personal accounts. He felt that his stories were family focused and Asian-centric, specific to Cambodian refugees. Moreover, he felt that those outside of Cambodian socio-cultural context would find the stories difficult to relate to and understand. As time passed, he was compelled to share these compelling stories; especially to his children. It is his hope that by telling these stories, he would be able to overcome the pain, heal the wounds, share the joy with his family and the world; ultimately connect his children to their roots. These stories are deeply personal. They are genuine human stories about courage, determination, love, lost, compassion, greed, hate, betrayal, discrimination, war, brutality, death, defeat and triumph which are inimitably analogous regardless of where we are from in the world. Real life events have no geographic, racial or socio-economic boundaries which he feels strongly that they ought to be shared with the world so lessons can be learned.
