The Seven Women Of The Sickle
John Flanagan
A special relationship between English women and their Thai companions in an idyllic setting. The Seven Women of The Sickle is based on a story told to John Flanagan by Tomcat whom John met by chance one morning in Singapore. Tomcat shared his experiences and according to him the bones of the story are true. The flesh - details, characters, names, activities - John made up. Tomcat and John keep in touch and John has Tomcat's good wishes for this book. It's a story of friendship and togetherness, emotional recovery, respect and affection, intercultural sensitivity and tolerance and women's vulnerabilities and strengths. The setting for the book is a perfectly-chosen location in Phuket, Thailand. It was paradise for a while, all-too-brief a while as the seven women lost their lives in the tsunami on Boxing Day 2004. A novel rich in ambiance and emotion.
