A Christian Praying With Muslims

I have written this book for Christians. I wanted to share my journey from Southern Baptist born and full emersion baptized at age eight, a Jesus People teen, 14 years as a pioneer in Contemporary Christian Music, catapulted into the Middle East until, after 35 years, I became A Christian Praying With Muslims. It was a 65-year journey. Please note: I am not a Christian who prays FOR Muslims, though I hope we all pray FOR each other. My WITness in this story is about the WITHness of my prayer relationship with Muslims. I live in Kuwait where proselytizing is illegal. So, I must emphasize that I did not write this book for Muslims. I wrote this book for Christians who:1. Already pray with Muslims and will be encouraged to read a fellow sojourner's story.2. Have been sensing the call to pray with Muslims but, as I had until a few years ago, haven't yet broken the barriers. I hope this story will encourage you to go ahead with your calling to pray with Muslims.3. Have questions about what goes on in Muslim prayers and what happens in the Mosque. 4. Have been wondering what Muslims believe and how different it is from Jews and Christians. 5. Know some Muslims and want to know how to develop more spiritual rapport with them.6. Have suspicions and even fear towards Muslims but recognize that perhaps it is caused by lack of knowledge and are willing to learn.7. Know some people who are fearful and negative towards Muslims as a group, and you want to get more ideas on how to help them reduce their fears. There might be a few more descriptions of people who will appreciate this book, but that is the general idea. I do not imagine that people who are severely biased against Muslims will read this book but perhaps a Christian who knows such people will find some ideas here by which to help them become more Christian and thereby instruments of God's Love. I am writing to share answers to some of the primary questions I had to answer for myself and which Christians often ask me about:1. Do Muslims worship the same God that Jews and Christians worship?2. Is Allah a legitimate name for God?3. Europe and the Anglosphere including USA seem so far more advanced than the Middle East. Have Muslims contributed anything of value to the world?4. What about 9/11? Didn't the Muslims dance in the streets about that attack on USA?5. Do you have to wear the Muslim scarf when you are in the Middle East?6. Don't the Middle East men treat women badly?7. Who do Muslims prayer to and what do Muslims say in their prayers?8. What goes on in the Mosque? 9. Can I go to the Mosque just to visit?10. Do Arabs always pray in Arabic? 11. Do Muslims worship Satan? 12. Is Mohammed a prophet?13. What is written in the Qur'an? Is it like the Bible?14. What about Isreal? Aren't Arabs the enemy of Israel and doesn't that mean they are the enemy of Christians?15. What do Muslims believe about Jesus? There are more questions that people have about Muslims, and there are many more questions that people ask me about living in the Middle East, but these are the ones that obstructed me from becoming A Christian Praying With Muslims. I hope I can provide some signposts in this book to guide the journeys of others. Each chapter is focused on a turning point that fine-tuned my path direction or a milestone that informed me that I was on the right track and how to reach the next milestone or turning point where I need to correct my trajectory0. I aim to share not only answers to the questions that started me on this journey, but also what I have learned along the way that proves how much Christians and Muslims have in common, which has been obscured by time and distance, arrogance and wars, and most of all, the spin masters who have rewritten history in their own self-interest.
