Phylogenetic Implications of Pollen Morphology in Subfamily Lamioideae (Labiatae)
Mones Abu-Asab
The book presents the phylogenetic implications of a palynological survey (i.e., the study of pollen grains characters) of the species of the subfamily Lamioideae-one of the two large subfamilies of Lamiaceae (aka Labiatae). The study encompassed 370 species representing 86 genera of Lamioideae and 6 genera of Verbenaceae. The book contains 591 images of scanning and transmission electron microscopy images of the pollen of these species. Pollen characters were used to assess the phylogenetic relationships in the Lamiaceae and Verbenaceae and discuss their implications on defining the ambiguous boundary between the two families.
