Shade Mountain Ranch is the 4th book in the "Jericho Shade Series." The book is set in Idaho in modern times on the Shade Mountain Guest Ranch just outside the town of Rock Springs, Idaho, the town established in the original book in the series: "Jericho Shade." Jim Williams, a former saddle bronc rider in the PRCA is looking for a softer job after recovering from a bad wreck at a Cheyenne Frontier Days rodeo, and he answers an ad seeking a working cowboy for the foreman of a dude ranch. The ranch is sited on the original Jericho Shade property, and takes in that ranch as well as the 1000 acres that Layne and Dottie Muller purchased for their so Johnny - see the 3rd book in the series: "Johnny's Run." Of course Jim doesn't know any of this until his new boss, Eve Muller Walters tells him the family legends. Williams is immediately attracted to the pretty young widow Eve Walters, and before he's been on the ranch very long she lets him know that the attraction is mutual. And then the trouble starts. An unscrupulous businessman in Boise is trying to ruin the Shade Mountain Ranch so that he can buy it cheap, but he hasn't counted on Jim Williams. Ralph Nethers keeps on hiring some bad guys to do his dirty work until Jim has sent them all packing, and then he tries to take action himself - much to his regret...
