A tale of the heart, set within "The Medusa" shipwreck tragedy. An English woman travels to The Louvre in Paris to investigate her ancestral lineage - a passenger on the ill-fated Medusa - Charlotte Picard. While uncovering Charlotte's story the woman studies Gericault's giant painting, "The Raft of the Medusa". In the process she meets a Louvre curator who is also a descendant of one of "The Medusa" survivors. Through him she learns the true story behind Charlotte Picard and her passionate romance with one of the ship's most gallant young officers - Lieutenant Jean Espiaux.
