Miguel Cervantes de
Don Quixote is a Spanish novel by Miguel de Cervantes. It was originally published in two parts, in 1605 and 1615. A founding work of Western literature, it is often labeled as the first modern novel and is considered one of the greatest works ever written. Don Quixote also holds the distinction of being one of the most-translated books in the world. Don Quixote revolves around the adventures of a nobleman from La Mancha, who becomes obsessed after so many chivalric tales that he decides to become a knight errant. After recruiting a farmer named Sancho Panza to be his squire, he sets out on a journey to revive chivalry and serve his nation. Their humorous and exciting adventures take them throughout Spain. Published more than four centuries ago, Cervantes' Don Quixote was an immediate success. Regarded as one of the greatest works of fiction, this typical picaresque novel has been an inspiration for various works of art, literature and music. It continues to be admired by its readers.
