Like Sudipta, all her characters are seekers of their own version of 'freedom'; sometimes desperate, often resigned and complacent, and in the end realising that the only thing that ever sets you free are the choices you make out of your free will-never mind the consequences! Sudipta finds human beings and the endearing drama in their everyday seemingly mundane lives a fascinating area of study. A wide range of people take up centre stage in these stories-from a happily retired professor in a small town in India, who suddenly realises that life still has one big agenda for him; a mother who had deferred her dreams forever in anticipation that someday her son will fulfil them; a strange reunion between two childhood best friends on foreign shores; an unfulfilled, unsung love story; an American-born Indian who makes peace with her shared destiny during an international secondment to India through an unlikely friendship with her alcoholic childless landlady; a sixty-two old year lady who finally 'finds' God in the unlikeliest of places. Sudipta is an amateur painter, and in these stories she has painted people and places, depicting the multitude of colours which rule their lives, moods, relationships and destinies.
