Sorghum sector

One of the consequences of the human impact on the environment is the pollution linked to the various human activities, including agriculture. The heavy use of chemicals to increase production is not without consequences for the ecosystem. The discharges from many industries (plastics, cosmetics, paper and particularly textiles), heavily loaded with dyestuffs, pose many health problems. Some dyes degrade into toxic, mutagenic or carcinogenic compounds that affect the living organism. In the present work, the focus is on the study of the sorption in aqueous solution of methylene blue on a biomass, in this case the glumes of the sorghum bicolor (red millet). Native to Africa, sorghum bicolor is an important crop worldwide, both for human food (as a cereal or for the production of syrup and molasses), and for animal feed (fodder), the production of alcoholic beverages and biofuels. Most varieties are therefore drought- and heat-tolerant and are particularly important in arid regions.
