Reparative therapy is the idea that one can become straight through counseling and prayer. This practice has been recently banned for minors in California, and a New Jersey lawsuit filed last month is seeking damages against an organization that claims that counseling can cure people of same-gender attraction. The California ban will have to play out in the court system, as two different judges made contradictory rulings in cases against the ban. Meanwhile, mainstream mental health organizations, from the American Psychological Association, where a 2009 task force found the practice to be both harmful and ineffective towards the World Health Organization, have said that there is no evidence that the practice works and have concluded that it may lead to depression, anxiety and even suicide. Indeed, reports have recorded the statements of various people who have undergone conversion therapy which demonstrate that this therapy is usually followed by mental disorders, psychological complications and suicidal ideation...
