Phonetic Changes in English Caused by Variation in Speech Rate: by Native Speakers of English and Czech Learners of English
Katerina Kolárová
The influence of speech rate on the phonetic aspects of speech is a widely studied phenomenon. Many studies proved that higher speech rate results in more phonetic changes in speech. This study is concerned with the impact of the higher speech rate on the phonetic aspects of English as the second language in advanced Czech learners of English. Two different methods are applied to make the subjects speak faster and thereby force them to alter some aspects of their speech, specifically the usage of the glottal stops.
