Proportional Mixing of Liquids Using Venturi: Venturi Jet Mixer

The uniform and proportional mixing of dyes and chemicals with different densities and viscosities, in exact proportion can be achieved by using venturi principle with slight variation in the venturi design which offers the advantage of having no moving parts, simple construction and economical. An experimental setup was made with 5 working models of Venturi of different inlet and throat diameter (20x9) and (20x10). The venturi is made up of acrylic fiber with various position of jet across the throat. Hence the effects of parameters like throat dimension, position of jet, discharge are analyzed for different flow rate of solvent in different venturi. Based on the results obtained, the curves are plotted between parameters like Velocity Ratio, Reynolds Number, Power Ratio, Initial Second Moment, Concentration Ratio, Viscosity Ratio, Moment Ratio, Mixing Parameter and Second Moment. Result reveals that mixing parameter improves as the throat diameter decreases. Also for a given throat diameter with jet at the center of the throat and below the venturi axis, mixing parameter increases.
