M-PSK (M-ary Phase Shift Keying) modulation is used in a wide variety of communications systems. Use of M-PSK is widespread in wireless networking standards, telephony links, cellular telephony, digitaltelevision standards, fiber-optic communications, mobile communications, and military communications. Systems which use M-PSK can be found worldwide interrestrial, satellite, and deep-space applications. Despite the ubiquitous use of M-PSK, some coherentM-PSK receiver structures have evolved very littlesince the Costas loop was invented in the 1950's. Inthis groundbreaking book, new structures for usewithin coherent M-PSK receivers are presented. Theseinclude carrier lock detectors, carrier phasedetectors, and SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio) estimators. The aforementioned structures are thoroughly analyzed and compared to previously available structures and it is shown that they have significant performance advantages and have immediateapplications for use in M-PSK systems. Therefore, this book is indispensable to any scientist orengineer who is tasked with the research ordevelopment of M-PSK communications systems.
