This work of Augustine appears here for the first time in German translation. Its main aim is to prove that the God of the Old Testament is the same as the God of the New Testament. This minor work of Augustine's has recently been unjustly eclipsed. It is presented and made accessible anew here. In a clear and concise manner, it deals with central themes of Christian theology: the creation of the world and of man, the Fall, and the question of the origin of evil (theodicy). In addition to these classical themes, however, it also offers special discussions, for example, on the connection between the Jewish and Christian cults of sacrifice. Overall, this work, written in 420, provides insight into the mature theology of the later Augustine.
