Susannah Lash
An old woman dies in the large and lovely house in the country she has lived in most of her adult life. After her death it turns out that she has left the house to a young woman, Kate, on her own with three children, who has no money and has never heard of her. They arrive one day at dusk and are drawn into the village and its concerns. Some of her neighbours view her with suspicion, but she makes friends as well as enemies and, as they settle and learn to love the place, she struggles to find out what links her to the previous owner, a search that leads to unexpected discoveries which change her life.
