In Their Shoes

We live in a broken world where millions of people live in extreme poverty.

Some people have been born into poverty but there are many people who have lost their jobs, their homes, their loved ones and their friends. This can happen to anyone, including you and me. No one can say why some people are more privileged than others or why tragedies happen.

So it may be of value to put ourselves in the shoes of those struggling and treat them as we ourselves would have wanted to be treated.

This book is about helping those less fortunate, step-by-step and little-by-little. Small actions can bring change and make a huge difference a little at a time. Getting started with just one act of kindness, may lead to greater faith, hope and love. This book is not about having a clean conscience. Nor is it about being seen or gaining glory. Its rather about choosing to open our eyes, our hearts and our hands. It is about finding creative solutions to bring change to a broken world. This change first and foremost starts in our homes, in our families and in our communities. It is often the case that when we ourselves are struggling, by simply focusing on the need of others, may make our problems seem far less significant. Helping others is helping ourselves. It is said that it is better to give than to receive. Giving to others opens our hands to also receive. It shifts our attention from being selfish, to being selfless. Faith is futile without works, whereas works is often proof of one's faith. This book includes 52 ideas to help the homeless. It also helps to document ones progress by keeping track by filling in the person in need's name, as well as what help is provided on the day. It simply starts by giving one of these items. Starting will make it easier to give in the future. I hope this book will encourage each and everyone, including myself, to be more open to helping the needy. To bring back dignity to those who has lost it and to be kind to people who roam the streets in lonely desperation.
