Base Ball: Simple Stats for a Simple Game
Bob Morris
Base Ball introduces a new statistical system named "base statistics" for determining the relative productivity of baseball players. The system is predicated on the base, specifically, the players' ability to attain bases on offense and deny them on defense. It is a very simple system that combines traditional statistics without applying all the factors that might affect them, factors that often ignore the players' ability to adapt to the changing conditions of the game. Base statistics are a counterpoint to the cavalcade of new-fangled statistics termed sabermetrics and analytics that get into so much detail, you can't see the forest for the trees. Baseball is a simple game and so should be the stats.
