The City-State tells the story of a once united city-state known as Rom-Yieri. An ethnically and a culturally diverse city with other satellite settlements around it, Rom-Yieri is set in the middle of an expansive desert known as the Goldie Desert. Regrettably, though, the city-due to a dehumanizing dictatorship and its attendant mismanagements and abuses-is divided into two separate independent city-states. Riang Yer Zuor was born in Kuluy, a smaller village located on the western side of the main and larger summer village of Wurieng. Both Kuluy and Wurieng are located at around more than ten miles north of the town of Jiokow and around the same distance south of the main town of Maiwut, South Sudan. Riang holds both a Bachelor's and a Master's degree from Concordia University-Wisconsin in the state of Wisconsin, USA. He also holds a Juris Doctor degree from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas. He is a licensed Advocate of the Court in South Sudan. Riang is the author of a book entitled Modern Sudan: Its History and the Genesis of the Current Crises (2005). He also co-authored a book entitled South Sudan: A Legitimate Struggle (2006).
