Deciding to build a house is not a decision that should be made lightly. It should be carefully considered. You should understand exactly what will be involved. How hard it will be. How long it will take. What demands will be placed on you. But then, if you knew these things, you would decide to not build a house. Instead, you'd decide to do something much easier. So this is the story of our decision to build a house. A decision we made lightly. But actually there are two stories here. One is the story of moving forward from a fractured past, the story of the literal and figurative 'putting together' of a new present and a new future. The second story is the why of it, an attempt to put what happened before into some kind of understandable narrative that might shed light on what we do, why we do it, and how we live with the choices we make.
