Unintended Rebel

After Second American Civil War, Annabelle helps boy held as political prisoner.

Annabelle spies the boy in a prison across the street from her school and tries to communicate with him, which gets her into hot water at school and with local police. Following her conscience, she tries to divert police attention to help him escape. As she does, Annabelle tumbles into situations that challenge her beliefs and threaten her family.

This is a prequel science fiction novelette to The Rebel Within yet reads as a standalone story.
