God's Way Out: An Exposition of the Heidelberg Catechism (The Triple Knowledge Book 2) - The Triple Knowledge 2nd edition
Herman Hoeksema
God's Way Out is the second volume in The Triple Knowledge series. It is the explanation of Lord's Days 5-10.
Volume 1 ended in Lord's Day 4 with the treatment of God's justice. In Lord's Day 5 the Catechism picks up the thought of God's justice by explaining the necessity and nature of satisfaction for sin in order to satisfy God's justice.
After explaining the meaning of satisfaction, the author develops the concept of the wonder of the incarnation in connection
with the idea of Christ as the mediator.
Commenting on Lord's Day 7, he develops the biblical meaning of faith as a certain knowledge and a hearty confidence.
He then explains the difficult doctrine of the holy Trinity.
When Lord's Day 9 begins to follow the order of the Apostles' Creed in setting forth the major doctrines of the faith, Hoeksema explains the fatherhood of God in terms of creation. He then concludes this volume with an exposition of the wonderfully comforting truth of God's sovereign providence over all things for the sake of his people.
