The Law and the Word
Thomas Troward
Thomas Troward was Her Majesty's Assistant Commissioner and later Divisional Judge of the North Indian Punjab from 1869 until his retirement in 1896. It is this later period for which he is best remembered and most celebrated; in it he was at last able to devote himself to his great interest in metaphysical and esoteric studies. Troward is one of the founding fathers of Mental Science and a leading proponent of the 'New Thought' movement, a forerunner of what is now known as 'New Age' thinking. The Law and the Word attempts to elucidate what he calls the 'Promise' of the Bible: Eternal Life, and of the Word made Real. He uses analogies and references to contemporary science and technology, such as the telegraph, radioactivity, and 'flying machines.' The Law and the Word represents a major work in Troward's contributing influence to Religious Science, the New Thought Movement in the United States and Great Britain. The Law and the Word outlines the power of the mind to create the experiences of our life.
