Harriet and Emilie
Eleanor Watkins
A first world war drama featuring the story of an upper-class girl and the daughter of a German servant. Young Lady Harriet is fairly imperious, makes friends with Emilie, whose mother is the cook, when the war intervenes in their lives. Emilie and her mother return to Germany. Later, Harriet volunteers for the VAD (Voluntary Aid Detachment) and finishes up nursing the wounded in France, including the cousin of her childhood friend, with whom she falls in love and marries. There is a subplot of romance between Miss Abigail Grey, the Christian governess turned nurse, and Harriet's brother.
