The 1859 Revival had a powerful influence upon the religious life of England and Scotland and many were converted who subsequently became active in the work of God. Among those who became Christians at that time was Henry Moorhouse. At first his voice was heard in small gatherings of working people, then he was out in the streets, preaching and distributing tracts to win souls for his Saviour. He riveted large audiences with his stirring preaching, producing a sense of delight in the plan of salvation among those who listened. He had little education but was familiar with the ways of men. He appeared to be frail but when he began to speak, people were fascinated by his glowing words that pointed them to Christ.
