Wolverton was transformed in 1838 when the railway from London to Birmingham was completed from a rural backwater into an industrial town. The town and the district grew considerably and by the end of the Victorian age Wolverton was second in Buckinghamshire only to High Wycombe in population size.
At the opening of WWI Wolverton was a prosperous workingf town with a full range of services and amenities.
