The Curse of the Weaver Goddess
Oktavia Nurtjahja
Feeling betrayed by her husband, Kumang of Panggau Libau does not think twice about coming down to the land when her apprentice's granddaughter calls for help. After she has heard that a curse was cast on a piece of pua kumbu and that whoever has seen its woven pattern will end up in Sebayan - the land of the dead, she makes it her personal quest to locate the cursed pua kumbu and lift the curse. She learns soon enough that she and her sister, Lulong, cannot look for the cursed pua kumbu on their own, so she asks her sister-in-law, Rikok, who lives on the land, to lend them a hand. As it turns out, the cursed pua kumbu reveals the dark secret of their world. As a result, they are not the only creatures who are interested in finding it. The race to get hold of the pua kumbu inevitably speeds up the spread of the curse. When one of their own ends up being afflicted by it, the quartet of Panggau warriors - Keling, Laja, Pungga, and Sampurai - joins them in lifting the curse, a task which involves facing not only the quirky Weaver Goddess but also her most peculiar disciples and interfering in centuries-old blood feud among the ancient creatures of the Mystical Forest. The Curse of the Weaver Goddess is the fifth book of The Return of Panggau Warriors, a series of fantasy novels that depicts the world of Borneo rain forest according to Iban mythology.
