Millersville, Wisconsin

Millersville, Wisconsin, now a part of the village of Howards Grove in Sheboygan County, was for decades its own settlement. The history of the community dates back to 1846 when the first immigrants found their way along the Pigeon River and settled in the area. At first the two settlements were known as Howards and Mueller Villa, later becoming Howards Grove and Millersville. On August 1, 1967, the two communities incorporated as Howards Grove - Millersville, becoming Sheboygan County's 10th village, the fourth largest. It also brought the village fame with its cumbersome 24-letter title, the longest in the state. The name controversy created quite a stir beginning in the spring of 1967 when residents rejected such fanciful proposals as "Forward" and "Harmony." The issue apparently has been settled. A vote in 1972 officially married the Millersvillians to Howards Grove. Howards Grove became the official name. This book is a compilation of news articles, stories, remembrances and histories of the people, business and activities of the area.
