Aspiring young authoress Wendy Carter is struggling with her new novel; a wartime romance between a beautiful WAAF corporal and a daring RAF fighter pilot during the Battle of Britain. On her sibling's advice, Wendy seeks the assistance of the elderly Wing Commander Matheson, a decorated veteran of the battle, who runs a holiday camp amidst the breath taking beauty of Raven's Bay on the North Yorkshire coast. Wendy rents a cottage from the Wing Commander for the summer and solicits his aid in her research for her new book.
As the relationship between the young writer and her ex-military mentor develops, however, Wendy gets rather more than she had bargained for. The Wing Commander becomes not only her sponsor and patron but also assumes the responsibility for her discipline; correcting her failings, both literary and personal, with the aid of a rattan cane across her bare bottom.
Wendy settles into a bizarre new life in Raven's Bay; writing her novel and reporting regularly to the Wing Commander for punishment whilst all the while conducting a passionate affair, with the beautiful red haired girl who manages the Wing Commander's holiday camp, and ultimately falling into the clutches of the scheming Lady Amelia who has her own plans for the lovely Miss Carter.
This latest offering from Michaela Francis, a charming tale of erotic, corporal punishment and sexual awakening, liberally laced with the echoes of history, the enchanting scenery of Raven's Bay, romantic love and captivating characters, will linger long in the reader's imagination and affection.
