Each spread presents a number from 1 to 10, along with a playful depiction of the corresponding amount of Canadian wildlife. Each number is shown as a figure and a word, to support comprehension. Every spread also includes a lively phrase with an action verb and one other element to count.

Featured wildlife includes mammals, birds, insects, reptiles, and fish -- creatures from diverse environments across Canada. Geraldo Valério's signature paper collage illustrations make counting fun: they are simple yet sophisticated, full of color and movement. An informational spread at the end includes spot art and facts about the featured wildlife.
