Identifying Gifted and Talented Children
Gareth Jones
I was, for the duration of the post, The East Sussex County, Standards, Learning and Effectiveness Service Advanced Skills Teacher {Gifted and Talented}. At the beginning this was in the Secondary phase {11 years to 18 years} but, by the end it was all through {4 years upwards}. This meant that, for a decade or so, I was involved in training staff to identify and effectively provide for their Gifted and Talented Students across 26 Secondary Schools and 200+ Primary Schools, as well as providing provision and connections to provision myself. My thoughts on identification and provision at the end of that decade are the substance of this book. It is written to be read by teachers, but it will also be of interest to the parents of G& T children, and to those children themselves, especially if they are being Home Educated, or educated in a context which does not meet their needs. It also contains a sample G& T policy and a training programme to help staff and institutions engage with the parents of G& T students.
